1. Introduction

Green AI (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains our data practices regarding the Green AI Android application (“the App”). The App is designed with privacy as its foundation, operating predominantly offline and on-device.

2. Data Collection and Usage

Green AI does not collect, track, store, or transmit your personal data, chat queries, or inference history to any external servers.

  • Chat Data: All user inputs, prompts, and the resulting AI-generated conversations are securely processed and stored entirely on your local device.
  • No Telemetry or Analytics: The App does not include third-party analytics, tracking SDKs, or crash-reporting tools. We do not gather telemetry or app usage behavior data.

3. On-Device Processing (llama.cpp)

To ensure your data never leaves your device, the App utilizes llama.cpp, an open-source inference engine, to run the Small Language Model (SLM) locally. When you type a prompt, it is securely processed by the model within your device’s memory. No conversational data is sent to the cloud for inference or processing.

4. Internet Access and Model Download

The App requires internet access strictly for a one-time operation:

  • Downloading the AI Model: On the first launch, the App connects to Hugging Face (a third-party model hosting platform) to download the Gemma 2 model file (gemma-2-2b-it-Q6_K.gguf).
  • Once the model is successfully downloaded and stored in the App’s private local storage, Green AI can function completely offline.

5. Permissions

The App requests the following permission:

  • POST_NOTIFICATIONS (Android 13+): Used exclusively to show the progress of the model download. This permission is not used for any marketing or data collection purposes.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

Because Green AI stores your chat history locally using Android’s DataStore (within the app’s protected sandbox directory), you have full control over your data.

  • Data Deletion: You can delete your chat history at any time by utilizing the “New Chat / Clear Chat” functionality within the App, or by clearing the App’s storage via your device’s system settings.

7. Third-Party Links and Services

The App connects to huggingface.co purely for downloading the initial model file. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of Hugging Face. We encourage you to review their privacy policy if you have concerns regarding the download phase.

8. Children’s Privacy

Green AI does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13, as no personal information is collected from any user.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our app or regulatory requirements. We will notify you of any significant changes by updating the “Effective Date” at the top of this document.
